Are you a young, unemployed South African passionate about nature, conservation, and the environment? The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) is offering an exciting 12-month Learnership Programme in 2025 that combines theoretical training and practical work experience in Mpumalanga’s most beautiful nature reserves.

This is a SAQA-accredited learnership opportunity designed to equip you with valuable skills in environmental conservation, biodiversity protection, and ecological monitoring.

Placement Locations for the MTPA Learnership 2025

Successful candidates will be placed at one of the following nature reserves or regional offices based on their residential area:

  • MTPA Lydenburg Office
  • Graskop Environmental Office
  • Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve
  • Songimvelo Nature Reserve
  • Barberton Nature Reserve
  • Mahushe Shongwe Nature Reserve
  • Mthethomusha Nature Reserve
  • Verloren Vallei Nature Reserve
  • Nooitgedacht Dam Nature Reserve
  • Mdala Nature Reserve
  • Mkhombo Nature Reserve
  • Mabusa Nature Reserve
  • SS Skosana Nature Reserve
  • Manyeleti Nature Reserve
  • Andover Nature Reserve
  • Ohrigstad Dam Nature Reserve

Learnership Responsibilities and Duties

As a participant in the MTPA Learnership 2025, you’ll gain hands-on experience through a wide range of duties, including:

  • Biodiversity conservation and environmental monitoring
  • Removing invasive plant species
  • Fire management, ecological rehabilitation, and infrastructure maintenance
  • Fauna and flora monitoring, plant propagation, and basic administration
  • Collecting environmental data for conservation planning
  • Promoting environmental education and community engagement
  • Completing assignments related to fieldwork
  • Attending training sessions and learner support activities

Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) Learnerships 2025 : Entry Requirements

To qualify for this opportunity, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be unemployed and a South African citizen
  • Aged between 18 and 35 years
  • Must reside in Mpumalanga Province
  • Possess a valid Grade 12 (Matric) certificate
  • Provide a valid proof of residence
  • Not currently studying at a tertiary institution
  • Must not be registered or have participated in another learnership programme
  • Have a genuine interest in outdoor and hands-on conservation work
