Gauteng Department of Education: 2025 Examination Assistant Vacancies Now Open
The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) is now accepting applications for Examination Assistants (EAs) and Quality Assurers for the 2025 academic year. These temporary roles play a critical part in ensuring the integrity and efficiency of the National Senior Certificate (NSC) and Senior Certificate (SC) examination processes.

2025 Examination Assistant Job Opportunities – Key Responsibilities
Examinations Assistants – District & Head Office
Successful applicants will be placed at District and Head Office exam centres and be responsible for the following:
- Receive, check, control, and scan exam scripts daily.
- Pack scripts according to subject, paper, and exam session for the correct marking centre.
- Verify the number of scripts and mark sheets in each batch.
- Identify and resolve any discrepancies in script batches.
- Ensure each script bag includes two MP Flow control lists and is tagged with the correct colour-coded label.
- Create marking centre files for script dispatch.
- Assist with logistics and dispatch to marking venues.
- Archive marked scripts systematically for future reference and retrieval.
Examinations Assistants – Marking Centres
Working directly at Marking Centres, responsibilities include:
- Receive and distribute exam scripts to marking teams.
- Confirm the correct number of scripts and marksheets per batch.
- Control and scan scripts during and after marking.
- Ensure each question is marked, totals are accurate, and marks are transferred correctly to the script cover and marksheet.
- Resolve discrepancies in coordination with marking teams.
- Reconcile and archive scripts by subject and paper in numerical order.
Examination Assistant 2025 – Requirements & Eligibility
To be eligible for the 2025 GDE Examination Assistant roles, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Minimum qualification: Grade 12 / Senior Certificate / National Senior Certificate (NSC) or National Certificate Vocational (NCV).
- Only registered tertiary students, unemployed graduates, or unemployed individuals with one or more tertiary qualifications may apply.
- Strong numerical skills with Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy at Grade 12 level are essential.
- Preference will be given to second-year students or higher at tertiary institutions.
- Must be able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Previous experience as an Examination Assistant or Quality Assurer (in district offices, marking centres, or office-based roles) should be clearly stated in the application.
Important: Individuals who are writing the NSC, SC, or AET exams in 2025, who have taken the Voluntary Severance Package (VSP), or who are currently employed elsewhere, are not eligible and will not be considered.
