Dis-Chem Pharmacies is offering Dispensary Support Learnership opportunities for 2026, giving motivated individuals the chance to begin a career in the pharmaceutical sector. This learnership is aimed at learners who meet the requirements to complete the Basic Pharmacist Assistant Course and build a strong foundation in pharmacy support services.

About the Dispensary Support Learnership

The 2026 Dispensary Support Learnership will provide participants with the knowledge and practical skills needed to understand key principles in pharmaceutical dispensing and customer care. This programme promotes hands-on experience and ensures learners gain high-quality, on-the-job training within a professional pharmacy environment.

Successful candidates will be employed on a Fixed-Term Contract as Dispensary Support staff until they are officially registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as learner basic assistants. Permanent employment may be offered once the learner qualifies as a Basic Pharmacist Assistant.

Key Responsibilities

As a Dispensary Support Learner, your duties may include:

Pharmacy Support & Medicine Handling

  • Selling Schedule 1 medicines or scheduled substances.
  • Assisting with compounding, preparation, or manipulation of non-sterile medicines according to approved formulas and SOPs.
  • Supporting stock unpacking, merchandising, and cleaning of the dispensary and OTC shelves.
  • Ensuring proper picking, packing, labelling, and checking of medication.
  • Understanding common dosages and drug interactions.
  • Assisting with stock control, shelf organization, and checking expiry dates for Schedule 1–5 medicines.

Customer Service & Patient Support

  • Accurately interpreting prescriptions while following SAPC legal requirements.
  • Conducting follow-ups with patients for script tracking and appointment reminders.
  • Assisting with call-centre scripts and patient service phone calls.
  • Promoting health awareness by providing relevant information to customers.

Administrative & Operational Duties

  • Assisting with medical scheme authorizations for chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medication.
  • Reporting low or out-of-stock items and stock errors to the Dispensary Manager.
  • Receiving and processing dispensary stock according to company SOPs.
  • Performing any additional duties as assigned by the Dispensary Manager.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for the 2026 Dispensary Support Learnership, applicants must have:

  • Grade 12 (Matric) with:
  • Pure Mathematics
  • AND either Physical Science or Life Science
  • A minimum 50% average.
