SASSETA invites unemployed South African eligible students to apply for its bursaries, for the 2026 academic year.

SASSETA Bursaries 2026/2027: Apply Now for Fully Funded Study Opportunities

The SASSETA Bursary Programme 2026/2027 is now open for applications. South African youth aged 18 to 35 years who wish to study at public universities or tertiary institutions in South Africa are encouraged to apply.

This bursary supports studies in priority and scarce-skills fields aligned with South Africa’s Sector Skills Plans, helping to build a skilled workforce for the future.

Fields of Study Funded by the SASSETA Bursary

Applicants may apply for bursary funding in the following priority disciplines:

  • Law (LLB)
  • Veterinary Science
  • STEM Qualifications
    • Including studies in:
      • Science
      • Technology
      • Engineering
      • Mathematics

Other High-Demand Qualifications

In addition to the priority fields above, SASSETA will fund other programmes aligned with occupations in high demand and those identified in the Sector Skills Plans.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the SASSETA Bursary Grant 2026/2027, applicants must:

  • Be a South African citizen aged 18–35
  • Be currently studying, registered, or have official acceptance for study at a public tertiary institution in South Africa
  • Apply for a qualification that appears on the official SASSETA eligible qualifications list

Application Instructions

Before submitting your application, please note the following:

  • All scanned documents must not exceed 20 MB in total size
  • Applications with files exceeding this limit will be automatically rejected
  • Read all instructions carefully before completing the application form
  • Complete the form in full – incomplete applications will be disqualified
  • Use block letters when completing the form
  • Ensure the application form is signed by both the applicant and the parent/guardian

Compulsory Documents Required

All applications must include the following certified documents (certification not older than 6 months):

  • Certified copy of the Applicant’s South African ID
  • Certified copy of Matric Certificate, statement of results, or highest qualification achieved
  • Proof of Acceptance or Registration for 2026 at a public tertiary institution
  • Certified copy of Parent or Guardian’s ID
  • Proof of Household Income and Employment Status, including:
    • A valid affidavit confirming total household income
    • Disclosure of all income sources
    • Employment status of household members
