Minimum Requirements for Prince Albert Municipality Firefighter Learnerships 2025
To be considered for the Prince Albert Firefighter Learnership, applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:
- Grade 12 / Matric Certificate
- Valid Code B or Code C1 Driver’s Licence
- Successful completion of the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT)
- Physically and mentally fit for emergency services work
- Must pass a Medical Examination in accordance with NFPA 1582 standards
- Clean criminal record
- Willingness to:
- Work shifts, overtime, weekends, and on short notice
- Be deployed at any fire station or unit within the municipality
- Basic Firefighting (Firefighting 1) and First Aid certification
- Ability to communicate effectively in at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape
Additional Advantages (Not Compulsory but Beneficial)
- Firefighting 2 certification
- HAZMAT Awareness and Operations certification
- Any additional relevant firefighting or emergency response training
Key Duties and Responsibilities
As a Learner Firefighter, you will be responsible for:
- Driving and operating firefighting and rescue vehicles
- Responding promptly to fire, rescue, and emergency incidents
- Ensuring all equipment and vehicles are maintained, clean, and operational
- Assisting with report writing, record keeping, and administrative tasks
- Supporting logistics and procurement of firefighting materials
- Participating in ongoing physical training and professional development
Remuneration & Benefits
- Post Level: T06 (Category 1 Municipality)
- Annual Salary Range: R155,086.20 – R201,319.92
