Tomorrow Trust Bursaries 2026 – Applications Now Open

The Tomorrow Trust is inviting eligible South African students to apply for the Tomorrow Trust Bursary Programme for the 2026 academic year. This funding opportunity is aimed at students pursuing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields, at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The bursary supports students committed to full-time studies at a recognised public university in South Africa and is designed to empower first-generation university students with academic potential and financial need.

Who Can Apply? – Tomorrow Trust Bursary 2026 Requirements

To qualify for the 2026 Tomorrow Trust bursary, applicants must meet the following minimum eligibility criteria:

Basic Requirements

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Be between 18 and 31 years old
  • Currently in Matric or have already completed Matric
  • Be studying or planning to study full-time towards an Undergraduate or Postgraduate (excluding Master’s) STEM degree
  • Be working towards your first degree qualification (no second undergraduate degrees permitted)
  • Be enrolled or planning to enrol at a recognised public university in South Africa

First-Generation Student Requirement

Applicants must be first-generation university students, meaning:

  • Parents do not hold a university degree
  • Exceptions apply in the following cases:
    • One parent attended university but did not complete their qualification
    • Parents received employer-funded study support (undergraduate, short course or diploma only)
    • Parents earn R350 000 or less per year (must include a declaration of expenditures
    • Parents are SASSA recipients (official documentation required)
    • Parents are self-employed (must submit a 3-month bank statement and sworn affidavit)

Financial & Funding Conditions

  • Combined household income must be below R350 000 per year
  • Applicants may not be employed full-time
  • Students may not receive another full bursary, including NSFAS
  • Partial funding is allowed
  • Merit awards are allowed (donor-specific)
  • If NSFAS is later approved, the student must choose either NSFAS or the Tomorrow Trust Bursary, not both
