Traffic Officer Training 2026 Overview

The 12-month Traffic Officer Cadet Training Programme will officially begin on 8 June 2026 at the Gene Louw Traffic College in Brackenfell.

This structured course combines theoretical learning and hands-on practical training, preparing cadets to enforce traffic laws, improve road safety, and support crime prevention initiatives across the Western Cape.

Minimum Requirements for Traffic Officer Training

To qualify for the 2026 intake, applicants must meet these criteria:

  • Grade 12 (Matric) certificate or equivalent
  • Valid Code B (manual) driver’s licence
  • Physically fit and able to perform strenuous activities
  • No criminal record
  • Under 35 years of age
  • No visible tattoos or body piercings (except one ear piercing for females)
  • Able to communicate in the dominant language of the placement area

Important: Due to the physically demanding nature of the programme, pregnant applicants will not be considered.

Selection Process

Shortlisted candidates will go through a comprehensive recruitment process, including:

  • Medical, psychological, and drug testing
  • Physical fitness assessments
  • Driving and written evaluations
  • Panel interview
  • Criminal record clearance via SAPS

Cadets must maintain fitness and pass continuous assessments throughout the programme.

Key Responsibilities of Traffic Officer Cadets

During and after training, participants will be equipped to:

  • Enforce road traffic laws and transport regulations
  • Promote road safety through visible policing
  • Assist in crime prevention operations
  • Perform administrative and operational duties

Candidates must be willing to work shift schedules, including 24/7 operations.
